Do you prefer summaries written by the reviewer or taken from other sources such as GoodReads, Amazon, etc?
Last night I was trying to write some reviews, and I was having some issues. As you know, I write my own summaries and I always have, but sometimes there are just some books that I just can't seem to summarize myself. Sequels are generally damn near impossible and then there are just some books that no matter how hard I try or how much I loved them, I just can't seem to summarize. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the subject of book summaries in reviews.

I always* write my own and prefer when reviewers write their own too.
ReplyDelete*with one exception and that was AS King's THE DUST OF 100 DOGS just because that was the most perfect teaser summary I have ever read.
I write some summaries myself and sometimes I borrow from Goodreads or Amazon(I always specify if I've borrowed the synopsis from somewhere).
ReplyDeleteSo I cannot really say that I mind if you from time to time doesn't write your own summary ;)
I always just use the book summary because I find that for the most part, they are a lot better than anything I could put together haha. If you're having a hard time summing up the odd book you could try just boring the official summary if you'd like. :) I really don't mind either or. Each book blogger should do what makes them happy.
ReplyDeleteI actually post both.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've ever been on my blog? But what I usually do is post the cover and the official book synopsis (from the back cover) in a blockquote. And Then I post a small summary of my own as I start my review.
Hope this helps =)

I always use Goodreads. So that I can link to a site I love. It saves me time for more reviews as well.
